OD Case Study: Transport & Storage Industry

Overview

The Australian arm of a global oil and chemicals storage organisation engaged Maximus to help prepare the organisation for future growth.

Client objectives

Already a high-performing firm, this organisation engaged Maximus to review the strategic direction and goals of the business; and ensure that the culture, structure, and management of the workforce could enable future growth.

Key deliverables of the project included:

  • Align HR with business strategy and drivers
  • Define and implement an organisational culture and values solution
  • Identify and scope a best practice talent management approach
  • Define and align performance and achievement objectives (all levels)
  • Review and restructure practical HR processes across the organisation
  • Create an ROI framework and assist HR in evaluating the results

The solution

Based on the culture and the organisation’s readiness for change, Maximus designed an eight-month, four-phased solution, centered on priorities that were jointly identified with the organisation. Each phase focused on two key deliverables, with the necessary analysis, development, implementation, and engagement being undertaken, prior to moving on to the next phase. Organisational processes, reporting methods, and structures were also amended to ensure the changes were strongly embedded organisation-wide.

Outcomes to date

  • All leaders across the organisation have visibility of the strategy and are committed to the future direction of the business.
  • The updated structure and new approach to performance have provided a robust framework for improving performance across all parts of the organisation.
  • The organisation has continued to build on this foundation, embarking on additional initiatives such as succession planning and high performance team development.
